In 2019, G-SHOCK debuted the GA-2100 series, a slim, ultra-tough watch made of shock-resistant resin and internally reinforced with carbon fiber. The black and gold GA-2100GB-1A and black and silver GA-2100SB-1A are decidedly attractive, streamlined iterations that take the series’ ruggedness to elevated heights. As the slimmest watch currently produced by the brand at 11.8mm in depth, both watches deliver a shock-resistant structure and, measuring 48.5 mm in length and 45.4 mm in width, a refined, stylish wrist feel that’s leaner in appearance while retaining the classic thickness and reliable exterior of the DW5000. The GA-2100GB-1A, in particular, features glossy black resin for the bezel and band, offset by a gold-toned dial (treated with a vapor deposition) with a subtle shimmering effect. By contrast, the smokey GA-2100SB-1A’s black and silver combination draws your focus to the three-dimensional case design and circular hairline finish applied to the dial and index marks.
Neither sport nor street stands up to its shock-resistant structure, and specs like 20-bar water resistance, world time (31 time zones / 48 cities), a 1/100 stopwatch, five daily alarms and a countdown timer provide versatile utility in the most unconventional of settings. At the hour and minute hands, neobrite treatments boost visibility in addition to the built-in Super Illuminator LED.
