VETEMENTS' Guram Gvasalia Designed the Costumes for Madonna's Upcoming 'Celebration Tour'
Following news of the tour’s postponement, the designer revealed that he had secretly been working with the artist on the shows’ looks over the last several months.

Guram Gvasalia, creative director of Vetements, revealed via Instagram on Wednesday that he had secretly been working on making the costumes for Madonna’s forthcoming Celebration Tour over the last several months.
Alongside an image of the pair hard at work, Gvasalia wrote, “@MADONNA thank You so much for the last months! Working so closely together on the costumes for your tour and bringing our visions and creativity into one big CELEBRATION. Designing your costumes was such a privilege and an honor. Seeing you work, seeing your drive and determination is so inspiring, now I understand why you are who you are. You are a fighter, you are an icon, you are THE QUEEN!”

Madonna’s Celebration Tour was slated to celebrate her four decades of genre-defining music over six months, with 84 scheduled dates in North America and Europe. However, the tour was postponed last month, after the artist was hospitalized due to a “serious bacterial infection,” which she is expected to recover from. Rescheduled show dates have not yet been revealed.
If the tour goes forward, Gvasalia’s work will reach a wide-spanning global audience, much like Jean Paul Gaultier’s designs did, when he created the looks for Madonna’s Blond Ambition Tour in 1990. Where that tour offered Gaultier’s signature cone bras a prominent place in pop culture’s history, Gvasalia looks to secure a similar sense of notoriety through his work on the Celebration Tour.
“I think it gives you certain recognition and credibility,” Gvasalia told The New York Times of his work with Madonna. “When she can ask anyone in the world, and people will probably do it for free and be less complicated than I am, it gives you a certain security that you’ve done something right. It’s really a blessing.”
