The UK is welcoming its latest wine expert: Severan, and it’s looking to shape up the sparkling wine industry like never before.
The Black-owned, invested and operated wine business has just launched, with the brand standing as an entity that looks to promote Black British excellence in all forms. Founded by music industry veteran, Dumi Oburota, and backed by a diverse group of investors, Severan’s sparkling wine was conceived as a celebration of Black British creativity and its incredible global reach.
Offering smooth and persistent bubbles, Severan’s debut creation, Black Label Brut, is a Blanc de Blancs Brut and has been made in collaboration with Severan’s wine partners, created to align with the company’s values of inclusivity, craftsmanship, and sustainability.
Severan’s base wine is made from chardonnay grapes from the vineyards of Franschhoek, South Africa, with the chosen location being Severan’s ideal spot for ripening fruit. The base wine is then imported to England for a second fermentation in the hills of Hampshire, before aging a further two and a half years.
Speaking about the launch of his brand, Severan founder, Dumi Oburota said: “With Severan, we wanted to create a legacy brand for the UK wine industry. We want to be known for producing high-quality sparkling wines that reflect the diversity and excellence of Britain’s Black culture.”
