For Fall/Winter 2023, Raf Simons and Miuccia Prada said “LET’S TALK ABOUT CLOTHES.” As such, Prada‘s FW23 collection was a direct translation of House codes simplified and simultaneously expanded into a futuristic realm, something that has gone on to define the duo’s work at the House. And now, we’re able to shop the much-talked-about collection.

Speaking on his work, Simons said: “This collection is about archetypal clothing, about taking the recognizable but changing it through silhouette and cut — their form language is transformed. It is also about the DNA of Prada, clothes embedded with fragments of an identity we can recognize as fundamentally Prada. These are unmistakable and significant gestures, towards the heritage and history of the brand, and to the meaning of Prada now.”

Miuccia added: “We always talk about reality, and we, as designers, are very aware of what is happening, the problems, the difficulties. It is a complicated moment in the world – and we react to it. The most honest thing we can do is to create something useful for people today — to face reality in, and frame the idea of our reality through clothes. We want to create fashion with a significance and a meaning – that is the value of fashion today.”

The DNA is evident throughout, as FW23 comes with sophisticated and clean cuts paired with pops of color and Simons’ sanitized masculinity. It’s very obvious with the shoes — a new pair of “brushed leather sneakers with bike fabric and suede elements” appearing in black, pale yellow, or a pair that mixes “Garnet/Peony Pink” and dark green feel “very Raf,” if only still infused with Prada’s sensibilities and formalities.

As for clothing, the combinations continue as colorful or printed collars spread atop mohair wool coats and cashmere cardigans. Later, this informs technical fabric formal coats (such as the one in “Desert Beige/Bottle Green”), stretch natté pants, and wool-cashmere cardigans served up in soft palettes.

In contrast, futurism comes to play with a padded cotton tank top that plays on the FW23 show invite of a pillow, while suede coats and tunic tops complement the Raf-isms found throughout.
