Netflix's 'LADIES FIRST' Documentary Explores the Important Role of Women in Hip-Hop
Featuring appearances from the likes of MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Rapsody and more.
Netflix has dropped off the official trailer for its upcoming documentary LADIES FIRST: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop, releasing in honor of hip-hop’s 50th anniversary.
The four-episode docu is billed as a series that “recontextualizes the irrepressible women of hip hop and their role in the genre’s 50 years by reinserting them into the canon where they belong: at the center, from day one to present day.” Viewers can expect words from icons such as MC Lyte, Queen Latifah and Rah Digga, current chart-toppers like Latto and Tierra Whack, contemporary superstars like Saweetie and Coi Leray and important figures like record labels execs, stylists and journalists. “LADIES FIRST: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop contextualizes the history of the music that changed the world within the wider social, racial, and political landscape of the times and, crucially, through a female lens,” the synopsis reads.
