Cecilie Bahnsen is the unconventional sneaker collaborator that you need to put on your radar. Her ongoing ASICS collaboration is of particular poignance, not only breaking sneaker conventions by incorporating everyday couture cues into her work, but also selling out of the silhouette each and every time. Now, the designer takes to Paris Fashion Week SS24 to debut her latest collaboration, re-working the ASICS GEL GT-2160 into a Mary Jane hybrid shoe.

While the style is a womenswear silhouette, it does go up to a size US 10.5. With that in mind, the sneaker definitely bends the rules when it comes to what defines a sneaker — here, there is no vamp, instead swapping out conventions for a velcro strap in metallic silver or gloss black, covered in floral detailing.

Elsewhere, we find transparent paneling also presenting floral prints, distracting the eye from the signature ASICS branding and tropes that remain on the medial and lateral walls. Another unique touch is the two-eyelet lace set-up, working more like a bow on the toe alongside a small hit of ASICS branding.

Taking to Instagram, the designer said: “Cecilie Bahnsen x ASICS; paying homage to the studied craftsmanship and passion invested in this collaboration, echoing the artistry behind each shoe. Trainers are displayed on plinths in a raw space creating a striking contrast in merging Cecilie Bahnsen’s feminine universe with ASICS’s technical appeal.”

Indeed, the designer’s shoes are currently on display at 35-37 Rue des Francs Bourgeois, Paris, as part of the wider Paris Fashion Week ongoings. Here, you’ll find plenty of new ASICS footwear, notably these Cecilie Bahnsen pairs in their own installation.

The pop-up is open until 7 PM CEST today, and the shoes are set to drop in limited quantities on Cecilie Bahnsen’s website come July 5. Take a closer look at the daring style above.
