Wrist Check: Met Gala 2023
Everything from Patek Philippe to Richard Mille to classic Cartier.
When it comes to accessories, the Met Gala sets the tone for some of the most sought-after wrist pieces amongst its attendees. Like in years past, the Met Gala 2023 was for star spotting and ogling at the over-the-top gowns presented under the Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty theme. While paying tribute to the legendary designer, who lived his seven-decade career as a true multihyphenate, he was best remembered as the creative director houses like Chloé, Fendi and Chanel. While attendees showed up and showed out in their best Lagerfeld homage, they also accessorized with a variety of unique watches.
Roger Federer, who was one of this year’s co-chairs, was seen wearing a brand new white gold, Rolex 1908 with a black leather strap to match his sharp, black and elegant tuxedo. It is only fitting for the Swiss tennis superstar to sport the Swiss luxury watch brand. The watch itself was only revealed as a brand new model at last month’s Watches & Wonders. It is the first of the “Perpetual” collection, focusing on the brand’s traditions. Pusha T also sported an iced-out Rolex Day Date while Jack Harlow wore the Rolex GMT (Batman) Ref. 126710BLNR-0003.
When it comes to keeping it classic, many stars went with Cartier timepieces. Rami Malek sported the classic Cartier Tank Must in the black-dial yellow-gold version — a perfect contrast to his all-white ensemble. Patrick Mahomes wore the classic, stainless steel Cartier Santos on steel bracelet at 40mm, as did Brooklyn Peltz Beckham and Taika Waititi who sported the Cartier Santos Dumont Ref. WSSA0022 with a black leather strap.
Other notable watches include Ke Huy Quan‘s Omega Speedmaster ‘57, Idris Elba‘s showstopping Gucci diamond-set and yellow-gold High Watchmaking as well as Stormzy‘s diamond encrusted Patek Philippe Nautilus Platinum 5711/110P-001. Additionally, Michelle Yeoh, who kicked started the year with a major Oscars win, arrived on the Met Gala carpet in style, always elegant sporting the Richard Mille RM 07-01 set with platinum with baguette-cut diamonds on a leather strap.
