Jason Statham returns to the cinema screens for the sequel of The Meg. Warner Bros. officially drops the trailer for Meg 2: The Trench, which is based on the 1997 novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror. The sequel was confirmed shortly after the first film grossed $530 million USD worldwide in 2018.

The trailer gives fans a glimpse of what to expect from Statham’s face-to-face encounter with three deep sea-dwelling prehistoric sharks. The original film saw a group of scientists’ submarines under attack by the Megalodon — also known as the species of giant shark that is expected to be extinct. In the trailer, new footage reveals Statham star alongside Wu Jing to lead an underwater journey to find out what is at the bottom of the oceon.

The sequel stars Cliff Curtis, Sienna Guillory, Skyler Samuels, Page Kennedy, Shuya Sophia Cai and Sergio Peris-Mencheta. Li Bingbing, who was in the first film will not be part of the sequel. Watch the trailer for the film below.

Meg 2: The Trench premieres on August 4.
