This past weekend, Louis Vuitton stopped traffic on the Jamsugyo Bridge at the Han River in Seoul for 24 hours. As the sun set and the city’s skyline darkened, the French luxury brand geared up amidst the massive winds to debut its Pre-Fall 2023 by Nicolas Ghesquière. The show marks Louis Vuitton’s first women’s Pre-Fall show in the South Korean capital. The occasion also saw Squid Game director Hwang Dong-hyuk act as the creative advisor for the show.

A big year for Louis Vuitton, the show also marks the brand’s relationship with South Korea, partnering with the Korea Tourism Organization to boost the country’s tourism. At a glance from afar, models emerged from the glowing blue-lit tunnel that served as the runway. Taking inspiration from travel and movement, both themes were intrinsically showcased throughout the collection as the designer embraced modern and traditional house motifs.

Continuing to build on the checkerboard prints, as seen on zipped-down vests, as well as dramatic shield sunglasses and magnified check prints reinterpreted as stripes, the collection saw a focus on relaxed suiting tailoring as well as a nod to the motocross trend. The show notes prepare attendees for the collection motifs stating, “Essentials take on a new look, new features. It rejoins the incessant movement over the Jamsugyo Bridge, a living work of architecture that exists in harmony with the water’s whims, a perfect allegory for transformation. It anchors a collection that is itself in mutation.” From oversized windbreakers paired with sporty motor jackets and leather skirts, Ghesquière exaggerates iconic house motifs highlighting its key details. Take a look above at the full collection and below at the full show.
