Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is scheduled to launch on Friday, May 12, but it seems that just days ahead of its official debut, some fans have gotten their hands on copies of the game.

Over the weekend, physical copies were making the rounds online, with some resellers on platforms like Mercari asking for hundreds of dollars for a single disc, Kotaku first reported.

Eventually, the physical copies were seemingly leaked as files online. Some rushed to download them, while others were keen to avoid them so as to not encounter any spoilers. Those who attempted to stream their Tears of the Kingdom gameplay on Twitch were swiftly suspended.

Later reports detailed that Discord servers dedicated to the leak had been removed due to copyright infringement at the “request of the copyright holders.”

Unfortunately for Nintendo, leaks can be an inevitable phase of rolling out a major title. Back in 2017, Breath of the Wild also experienced its fair share of leaks but still went on to sell nearly 30 million copies globally.

In other gaming news, Xbox hardware sales have fallen 30% but more users than ever are subscribed to Game Pass.
