On May 9, South Korean design and artist Wonmin Park will unveil his solo exhibition Unding: Restoration of Existence at New York’s Carpenters Workshop Gallery.

The show’s title derives from the concept of Unding, a term coined by German-Korean philosopher Byung-Chul Han, which can be comprehended as “unthing” or “non-thing.” With Unding: Restoration of Existence, the artist hopes to invite his audience to experience the way his work responds to and exemplifies Han’s theories.

A total of 11 pieces will be displayed at the gallery, comprising tables, chairs, benches, as well as a new floor light. A particular spotlight is put on the new floor light with a design that’s inspired by mountainous volcanic formations. According to the catalog, “The colored resin base operates as a negative of the volcanic rock seen throughout the rest of the Plain Cuts_Stone and Steel series, intended to fill with a natural light that counterbalances the weight of the originals.”
