This sale is considered the highest publicly recorded price for a pair of sneakers. “Today’s record-breaking result further proves that the demand for Michael Jordan sports memorabilia continues to outperform and transcend all expectations,” said Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s Head of Streetwear and Modern Collectibles. “Sotheby’s is extremely proud to hold the world record for most valuable game-worn sports memorabilia at auction and the most valuable sneakers ever sold, both of which — to no surprise — are directly tied to the global icon, Michael Jordan.”

Sotheby’s is selling one of the most valuable sneakers to appear at auction. Michael Jordan‘s 1998 NBA Finals Game 2 Air Jordan 13s see on The Last Dance season is set to break the world record for any pair of sneakers sold at auction.
Jordan’s sports memorabilia continues to prove time and time again that his pieces are one of the most coveted on the auction block. Prior to this sale, Sotheby’s also auctioned off six pairs of Michael Jordan’s iconic championship Air Jordan sneakers. This particular shoe is one of the most significant sneakers of his career, made popular in his final year with the Chicago Bulls in his 1998 NBA Finals Game 2 Air Jordan 13s from the famous The Last Dance season.
This is the only complete pair of his game-worn shoes from the 1998 NBA Finals that have been authenticated by The MeiGray Group. This particular pair is also the final pair of Air Jordan XIII Breds that Michael would ever lace up in an NBA game. These sneakers were given to a ball boy from Jordan after the game. The basketball star took the sneakers off in the locker room after Game 2 and signed each one before handing them over to the ball boy as a thank you for his services and hospitality during the Bulls visits.
The Air Jordan 13s are estimated to hit roughly $2-4 million USD, set to eclipse the current auction record for a pair of sneakers. The shoe kicks off the VICTORIAM sales series, a two-part online auction series that features best-in-class sports memorabilia from iconic past and present athletes.
