Kvadrat Launches Collections with Ronan Bouroullec and Muller Van Severen
The Danish design favorite enlists some new collaborators.

Danish textile company Kvadrat has launched a range of new collections alongside the likes of French designer Ronan Bouroullec, Belgian studio Muller Van Severen, and new pieces with longstanding collaborator Raf Simons.
The new pieces, which range from fabrics to rugs, were shown at the brand’s showroom in Milan on the occasion of Milan Design Week 2023. The Bouroullec collaboration – which takes inspiration from his colorful sketches – provided the focal point for an installation named Paravent, with the Muller van Severen rugs and new textiles by Kvadrat/Raf Simons on display elsewhere in the space.
For Bouroullec, the three-piece collection was a chance to evoke movement and color seen in his artworks, which he creates with markers, graphite, or ballpoint pens. Each, named Tero Outdoor, Sone, and Alle respectively, takes on a look of the hand-drawn works but are by no means replications. “The journey that led us to Sone, Tero Outdoor, and Alle started with a simple question. How can we translate the essence of the drawings into textiles?” the designer says.
For Alle, cool, neutral, and brick-colored notes are textured through raised ‘brushstrokes’. Sone contrasts with its bright hues with notes of vibrant green and yellow, while Tero Outdoor, which is constructed from post-consumer recycled polyester, makes use of three different colored yarns.
Bouroullec’s new collection is flanked by that of Muller van Severen, the Belgian studio founded by Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen. Their own pieces, titled “March and July”, are two rug designs with surfaces inspired by the texture of sheep fleece across different times of the year. “March resembles the long, curly and irregular fleece just before the shearing (clipping), while July is reminiscent of the short, neat fleece of high summer after shearing has taken place,” Kvadrat says of the designs, which are available in a specially designed pallette of nine colorways.
Finally, the brand adds two new pieces to its best-selling Kvadrat/Raf Simons range – Aaren, described as the designer’s interpretation of the classic twill, and Einar, crafted from the combination of mohair and alpaca.
