Kesha Announces New Album 'Gag Order,' Produced by Rick Rubin
Two new singles will arrive this Friday.
Kesha has returned to reveal the cover art, release date and lead singles for her fifth studio record, titled Gag Order. The album, which has been three years in the making, is scheduled to arrive on May 19 via RCA Records.
Ahead of its release, Kesha will release two lead singles from the album, titled “Fine Line” and “Eat the Acid,” on Friday, April 28. Gag Order, which features production from Rick Rubin, is described as a “post-pop” “emotional exorcism,” according to Kesha and her team. The record will see the “Praying” vocalist find empowerment on a journey of self-discovery.

“Without the darkness there is no light. I finally let my darkness have the light,” she said of the project in a statement to Nylon. “I cannot fight the truth of this life being difficult and painful. It is for everyone. An artist doesn’t exist to make others happy. I believe an artist gives voice, motion, color to the emotions we all have. The good emotions, and the unmanageably f*cking miserable ones.”
Gag Order will mark Kesha’s third full-length effort since 2014, when she filed a lawsuit against the head of her label, Dr. Luke, alleging that he physically, sexually and emotionally abused her. The album’s title refers to a judge’s order that a case may not be discussed in public. Earlier this year, a New York judge scheduled a new trial start date on July 19.
Kesha’s new album, Gag Order, is out on May 19. Stay tuned for new music this Friday.
