Following weeks of viral TikToks spotting Lady Gaga in character as Harley Quinn across New York City, the star has announced that the filming of Joker: Folie à Deux has officially concluded. “That’s a wrap,” she wrote on Instagram, alongside a new image of her in costume.

Filmmaker Todd Phillips, who returns to direct the sequel with a screenplay co-written with Scott Silver, took to the social media platform to make an extended announcement. Under new images of both Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix, who plays the titular character, he said, “That’s a wrap. Thanks to these two (+ the entire cast) and the BEST crew that the film industry has to offer. From top to bottom. Gonna crawl into a cave now (edit room) and put it all together.”

Gaga’s Harley Quinn appears with blonde hair, smeared black eye makeup and a signature red lip. Meanwhile, Phoenix’s Joker is pictured with traditional, clown-like face makeup and a red suit.

Joker: Folie à Deux, which is slated to release in theaters in October 2024, will be a”full-blown musical,” according to Phillips. Though little is known about the film’s plot, the musical element will certainly set the sequel apart from its dark, gritty, crime thriller-inspired predecessor.

In conversation with Variety, composer Hildur Guðnadóttir previously discussed the film’s musical direction. “It’s an interesting decision,” he said. “And I think it’s really exciting to see how it unfolds. And I think it’s somehow logical at the same time. It’s both logical and also very surprising. For me as well as the audience. So far it’s just been a really beautiful conversation and I’m really excited to see how it unfolds.”
