Frank Ocean’s headlining performance Sunday night at Coachella seemed to go anything but according to plan. First, its livestream — which Coachella had hyped up leading into Sunday — was cancelled without explanation hours before its scheduled time, disappointing fans around the world who were excited to see him return to performing after a long six years since his last appearance. Thankfully for fans unable to make the trip to the desert, many attendees took to livestreaming platforms to share what was going on.

When it came time to begin — an estimated hour after the listed start time — Frank Ocean’s presence was rather minimal. Tucked away backstage a majority of the time, fans relied on artistically-styled videography to make out what exactly he was doing (and when he was actually singing). Many of the songs were presented in new renditions and met with a mixed response, however, he did take the time to discuss why he agreed to perform at Coachella, sharing that there’s not an album arriving imminently. After ending the show early due to curfew, reports of disappointment surfaced swiftly. Yesterday, Rolling Stone shared that a source indicated Ocean performed with an ankle injury that resulted from rehearsals.

Now, Variety has reported that Ocean will not be performing for weekend two of Coachella 2023 due to “two fractures and a sprain in his left leg.” While Coachella has yet to issue a statement regarding this news, another Variety source has indicated that Blink-182 will be replacing him. The rock band performed last Friday at the Sahara stage, several sets prior to Metro Boomin’s closing production at the stage.
