Take an Exclusive First Look at DRx Romanelli's Faux Fur Gucci Vault Continuum Furniture
The LA-based designer delves into the House’s fabric archive to create chairs and ottomans.
Gucci Vault is a digital concept space that bridges real-life artifacts — such as the “Made-to-Treasure” collection and the assortment of vintage bags — with the digital world, seeing it team up with Roblox on numerous occasions to expand its fashionable metaverse. Earlier this year, Gucci also introduced Continuum, a space for designers emerging and explored to re-imagine the House’s archive within their own aesthetic. Continuum has brought us a collaboration with Vans, EGONlab. and many more, and now it enters the world of interior design with a little help from DRx Romanelli.
The LA-based design pioneer is known for his upcycling methods. Previously, his work has culminated around chairs made from NEIGHBORHOOD off-cuts and deadstock garments, as well as collaborative LN-CC football jersey chairs. Now, Darren Romanelli ups the ante by stepping into Gucci’s rich fabric archive, borrowing the House’s collections of faux fur to create chairs and ottomans that span the fashion and design world.
Gucci’s own furniture is often ornate and opulent, but this is not the case with DRx. Comfort is key here, as faux fur in House colors such as the red, white and green webbing stripe or lavender, cream and black come together on the upcycler’s signature relaxed shape.
The pieces ooze the ’70s Gucci aesthetic populated by ex-Creative Director Alessandro Michele, looking like pieces you’d find in a funky conversation pit inside an LA hideaway.
