TIME has released its annual list of the 100 most influential people of 2023. This year, the TIME100 continues to spotlight artists, actors, advocates, scientists, business people and world leaders who have made a major impact in their industries and fields.

While not every single name on the list is immediately recognizable, as always, there are plenty of stars that made the cut. Among those who have graced our screens are Michael B. Jordon, Ali Wong, Austin Butler, Aubrey Plaza, Salma Hayek and Colin Farrell. As for the artists working in other mediums, there’s director Rian Johnson, authors Judy Blume and Colleen Hoover and musician Steve Lacy.

As usual for the TIME100, here are several artists that – rather being filed under the “Artists” label – are slated under TIME’s “Titans” vertical or another category. Beyoncé, for instance, appears under “Titans” due to the sheer scope of her career, a category that also includes Elon Musk and TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew, as well as Lionel Messi and Patrick Mahomes.

“Beyoncé wove a tapestry of music on Renaissance that celebrated all facets of Black music, including the immense contributions of the Black gay and queer community,” Honey Dijon writes about Beyoncé, pointing out that the artist is the most decorated Grammy winner ever. “Beyoncé’s fearlessness, talent, beauty, and artistry will continue to influence and inspire Black female artists for millennia.”

It’s worth noting that not all honorees are being recognized for making a positive impact but are included simply because of their undeniable influence.

In Elon Musk’s write-up, Kara Swisher writes that “it’s a shame, because much of what he has tried to do over his career—even if some of it is still an aspiration—has been bold and inspirational… but under Musk’s erratic rule, Twitter has become a nonstop grievance tantrum we must all endure, and he wastes far too much of his time fiddling on his toxic violin while it burns.”

Moving on to “Icons,” the list names Syrian human rights activists and competitive swimmers, sisters Sarah and Yusra Mardini. Brittney Griner, who spent 10 months wrongfully detained in Russia and is now working on a memoir of her experience, is also honored. Elsewhere, there’s Ke Huy Quan, Pedro Pascal and even King Charles.

Other categories in the TIME100 list of “Pioneers,” “Leaders” and “Innovators.” Check out the entire list of 2023 honorees.
