Afrobeats Artist Asake Drops New Self-Love Track "2:30"
With a party-filled music video, shot in Los Angeles.
Nigerian breakout musician Asake has dropped off a melodic new cut, titled “2:30,” alongside an accompanying music video directed by Edgar Esteves.
The fresh track, which will appear on Asake’s forthcoming full-length project later this year, sees the Afrobeats singer celebrate his originality, with a beat composed of percussion and various synths, from producers Magicsticks and BlaiseBeatz. In the video, which was shot in Los Angeles, Asake is seen sifting through his colorfully unique wardrobe and lounging poolside in the Hollywood Hills wearing crystal-studded sandals amongst a sea of partygoers.
The track marks the artist’s second solo song of the year, after “Yoga,” which was released in January. Last month, Asake made his late-night television debut with a mash-up of “Yoga/Organize” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. And most recently, he teamed up with Davido for “NO COMPETITION,” which appeared on the latter artist’s new album.
Last year was monumental for Asake, who dropped off his debut studio album, Mr. Money With the Vibe. The project set the record for the highest-charting Nigerian debut album of all-time, entering the Billboard 200 albums chart in the 66th spot.
Looking ahead, Asake is gearing up for several live shows, with sets scheduled at Afro Nation in Miami on May 27, Rosendal Garden Party in Sweden on June 8, Broccoli City in Washington D.C. on July 16 and more to be announced.
