With Takahiro Miyashita’s TAKAHIROMIYASHITA TheSoloist., it has become increasingly evident that the creative designs with his heart. Some of his collections turned sketches into 3D form with SS23, while others offered a reflection on why Miyashita designs in the first place with a look at his brand’s evolution as showcased by SS22. Now for the Fall/Winter 2023 season, Miyashita pays homage to the life and legacy of a close friend.
“Close female friend…a friend and a sister at the same time,” read an excerpt from the show’s collection notes. Held during Rakuten Fashion Week in Tokyo, the latest from Miyashita was an exhibition of love united with his signature anti-fashion cadence. With a largely muted color palette, the aura came to be through classic shades of black and white alongside cuts of gray and deep wine. Blending elevated and street styles, the collection revealed a love for elongated tailoring with asymmetrical detailing. In typical Miyashita fashion, the subversion of styles came to be with layered waistcoats, nylon bomber jackets, off-the-shoulder knitwear and a range of short lengths.
What also bubbled to the surface in this collection was a deep attention of fabric blending – offering up classic cuts of wool and cotton with textured fur tops, vests and neck mufflers. The FW23 collection from Miyashita was also supported by Rakuten Project “by R.”
