Here Are Rolex's Novelties for 2023
Including the Daytona, GMT-Master II and 1908.
Rolex just launched its latest novelties at Watches & Wonders in Geneva. Spanning eight different models and multiple references, the lineup consists of iconic silhouettes from the entire Oyster Perpetual range, including the likes of Daytona, GMT-Master II, and more. Cosmograph Daytona
To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the emblematic model, Rolex was determined to revisit the range, which leads to the birth of the new-generation Cosmograph Daytona. Dubbed “an icon defying time” by the Maison, the collection receives an updated dial with a new graphic balance, as well as resized indices and counter rings.
Available in a range of builds, from yellow gold, Everose gold, Oystersteel to platinum, the highlight of the collection is undoubtedly the 950 platinum version. With an ice-blue dial, the platinum-made watch bears the series’ first transparent caseback, allowing its 18-carat yellow gold oscillating weight to be on clear display. A new chronograph movement, caliber 4131 has been integrated into the series for up to 72 hours of power reserve.
Perpetual 1908
Contemporary, classic, and elegant, the Perpetual 1908 inherits the Maison’s historic codes while also possessing countless innovative facets. Its sleek dial pays homage to a 1931 Oyster Perpetual timepiece, while also reinterpreted with contemporary touches. Through its transparent caseback, the watch reveals the brand’s new self-winding 7140 calibre. A dualclasp has been incorporated onto the alligator leather strap for improved comfort, as well as to ensure a secure fastening. Attired in a 39mm, polished finish 18-carat yellow or white gold case, the timepiece is also offered in a white or black colored dial.
Yacht-Master 42
Known for being lightweight yet robust, the Yacht-Master 42 is the second Rolex time-teller to be made from a special grade 5 titanium alloy called RLX titanium. Boasting a technical satin finish, the 42mm watch is fitted with a bidirectional and rotatable bezel complete with Cerachrom inserts in matte black ceramic. Inside the Yacht-Master 42 beats the 3235 calibre, a perpetual, mechanical, and self-winding movement that powers the watch for up to 70 hours.
Sky-Dweller
The Sky-Dweller is a timepiece that’s conceptualized for world travelers with refined tastes. Its tantalizing dial operates between two time zones and includes an annual calendar powered by the new-gen 9002 calibre. This new release also marks the return of the 19-carat white gold material for the range, which is paired with a stark blue dial and Oysterflex bracelet. In addition, new dial colors have also been introduced, comprising a muted mint green, as well as a radiant blue-green that’s exclusive to the Everose gold reference.
GMT-Master II
Arriving in an 18-carat yellow gold as well as a yellow Rolesor version, the new GMT-Master II features gray and black ceramic Cerachrom bezel inserts for a harmonious contrast. As a product of exemplary craftsmanship, the new timepieces are fitted exclusively on Jubilee bracelets. Both run on Rolex’s own 3265 calibre with a bidirectional self-winding function, complete with 70 hours of power reserve.
Explorer 40
Broadening the Maison’s Explorer lineup is the new 40mm reference made from Oystersteel. Boasting a simple, highly-legible, and robust build, the timepiece is highly resistant to corrosion and is safe to use even in the harshest of environments and climates. The indices and hands are integrated with a Chromalight display that emits a long-lasting blue glow in low-light conditions, while a bright white is present during the mich brighter day-time. In terms of movement, the Explorer 40 utilizes the in-house 3230 calibre with a running time of up to 70 hours.
Oyster Perpetual
Perhaps the most colorful reference in Rolex’s latest drop, the Oyster Perpetual is introduced to a marvelous turquoise-hued dial that’s decked with multi-colored bubbles. This playful design is applied across the timepiece in 31mm, 36mm, and 41mm case sizes. Just like the Explorer 40, the Oyster Perpetual watches are encased in durable Oystersteel, with the smaller size utilizing a 2232 calibre, while the larger case sizes run on the 3230 mechanical and self-winding movement.
Day-Date 36
As a testament to Rolex’s mastery of gem-setting, the new Day-Date 36 is presented in three glimmering dial options comprising green aventurine, carnelian stone, or turquoise. Its sparkling appeal is further accentuated with diamond-encrusted Roman numerals. Cases are offered in platinum, yellow gold, and everose gold on their own, or with diamonds embedding the bezel. Completing these dazzling time-tellers is the three-piece link President bracelet, which is specially reserved for the Day-Date models, and the precious metal versions of the Datejust.
Rolex also reveals this playful Day-Date reference starring colorful jigsaw puzzle motifs across its dial. Crafted with champlevé enameling, the motifs are colored in turquoise blue, red, fuchsia, orange, yellow, and green against an orange backdrop. In place of the usual hour-markers are 10-baguette-cut sapphires in six alternating hues. The 12 o’clock mark now displays an arc-shaped aperture with inspirational words that transition from “Happy,” “Eternity,” “Gratitude,” “Peace,” “Faith,” “Love,” and “Hope.” To match the positive energy this timepiece emits, the 3 o’clock window is set to display a rotation of 31 emojis instead of numbered dates.
