Rey Mysterio Named First 2023 WWE Hall of Fame Inductee
WCW icon and close friend Konnan will be inducing the beloved 619 luchador.
During the March 10 edition of SmackDown, the WWE announced Rey Mysterio as the first 2023 WWE Hall of Fame inductee. Aside from standing as the world’s most recognizable luchador, Mysterio is widely regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time and is credited with popularizing cruiserweight wrestling.
It has also been reported that WCW icon Konnan will be inducing Rey Mysterio at the ceremony held the night before WrestleMania. Konnan was requested by Mysterio and approved by the WWE.
In the past, Rey Mysterio has credited Konnan for his career in pro wrestling, first meeting the wrestler when he was 11 years old. Konnan trained with Mysterio’s uncle, Rey Mysterio Sr, and helped the now-WWE star land a spot in WCW. Their bond as a tag team in WCW and shared experiences in wrestling pushed Rey Mysterio to name Konnan the godfather of his son Dominik Mysterio.
Konnan will be inducting Rey into the Hall of Fame. Rey asked for him and the company approved it. As noted last night, to me it was the only choice.
