Not a Hotel’s New Tokyo Branch Blends Grace and Modernity
Designed by Masamichi Katayama from Wonderwall.
Vacation home-oriented hospitality group, Not A Hotel, has unveiled its new exclusive branch in Tokyo.
Titled ‘Hiroo,’ the new space reaches for the sky literally in stature and figuratively in its graceful blend of tranquility and modernity. Designed by Masamichi Katayama from the Japanese interior design firm, Wonderwall, what first catches attention is the space’s towering exterior concrete interior. Undoubtedly clean, the building’s texture minimal aura is enhanced by the concrete’s ridge texture, the inclusion of just a few windows and ground-level lights that cascade up the walls.
“The design aims to create a neutral space with a sense of quality and warmth similar to that of a private residence,” writes Wonderwall. “The core concept is based on a ‘fusion of East and West,’ reinterpreting the uniquely Japanese sense of space and blending it with a Western sensibility that Katayama himself has been influenced by.”
Inside the five-story structure are a lounge with woven rattan walls, a basement restaurant and a library. Take a look at the minimally elegant space in the gallery above.
