Following the news of Keanu Reeves departing from the Martin Scorsese limited series The Devil in the White City, it appears that Hulu is no longer moving forward with the project.

For the past decade, the project has been in various stages of development and although it is no longer a work in progress, ABC Signature stills appear to be committed to shopping the show to new outlets. The film rights to the book were purchased by Leonardo DiCaprio in 2010 and first saw Reeves linked to the project as its lead at the beginning of 2022. However, the studio has found it difficult to replace its lead role following his departure. The intended director, Todd Fields, dropped out days later, hot on Reeves’ heels. The Hollywood Reporter says that sources around the project report that the studio were nearing deals with Jeremy Allen White, Jude Law and director Matt Ross for the project, but the deal was never closed.

Devil is based on Erik Larson’s novel that revolved around the story of Daniel H. Burnham, a visionary architect who races to mark his history at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. It remains to be seen if the project will be picked up by another streamer.
