Galerie Philia’s ‘Montesino’ Showcases Contemporary Latin American Designs
Open now at Design Week República Dominicana from March 13-19.
International contemporary and sculptural design/art gallery, Galerie Philia, has revealed its new Montesino exhibition at Design Week República Dominicana.
In its commitment to showcasing works from both establish and emerging creators, the new exhibition showcases the beauty of contemporary designs from Latin America. Specifically, Montesino includes works from artists and designers from Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Venezuela and Argentina.
The exhibition also gets its footing as an homage to Spanish Dominican friars, Antonio Montesino, who was a missionary, and Bartolome de Las Casas, who was a priest. Both of the men were recognized as figures who worked for the freedom and protection of Caribbean indigenous people. Staged at the Monumento a Fray Antonio de Montesino, the exhibition showcases a wide array of beautiful pieces like ceramic objects from Casa Alfarera Santo Domingo, a solid Huanacaxtle wood bar cabinet with woven sisal legs by Comité de Proyectos, a light sculpture comprised of Andean white onyx spheres by Cristián Mohaded, a sculptural chair by Ignis Ossium, copper furniture pieces by Manu Bañó and more.
