Closer Look at fragment design x UNDERCOVER
Paying homage to the late Manuel Göttsching’s innovative one-track album ‘E2-E4’.
Heading into UNDERCOVER’s latest show at Paris Fashion Week, founder Jun Takahashi shared that he enlisted fragment design founder and musician Hiroshi Fujiwara to produce the show’s music. Shortly thereafter, it was revealed that the duo had collaborated on pieces in the collection as well, despite originally only planning to do music. The collection itself — titled “Enjoy Yourself” — features UNDERCOVER’s FW23 womenswear and draws its inspiration from The Specials’ track “Enjoy Yourself” and the late Manuel Göttsching’s one-track album E2-E4.
Following the show, the Hypebeast Japan team went behind-the-scenes with Takahashi to explore the fragment design collaboration. Utilizing E2-E4’s chessboard-themed album cover, fragment design’s lightning bolt logo and UNDERCOVER’s “U” logo are scattered in select places throughout the brown/off-white and black/off-white patterns. These designs land on pieces that range from scarves to unisex outerwear to the robes worn at the conclusion of the collection’s runway show.
Stay tuned for official release information regarding fragment design x UNDERCOVER and the rest of UNDERCOVER’s “Enjoy Yourself” womenswear collection as it’s slated for a Fall/Winter 2023 launch via UNDERCOVER and select retailers worldwide.
