Czapek Reveals Four New Antarctique Timepieces at Watches & Wonders 2023
Including the Sashiko model, which calls back to the Japanese stitching technique of the same name.
For Watches & Wonders 2023, premium timepiece purveyor Czapek has introduced a number of striking new models to its impressive product lineup.
Among them, the Switzerland-born watchmaker expands its popular Antarctique collection, with a skillfully skeletonized Révélation watch and a three-hand design called Titanium. Additionally, the label has pumped up its Antarctique S line with two more models: the Carte des Nuages, which leans into its sporty appeal with updated dials, and the Sashiko time-teller, which pays homage to the geometric lines of the traditional Japanese stitching technique of the same moniker.
Below, learn more about each of Czapek’s latest timepieces.
Révélation
The Antarctique Révélation was crafted throughout the brand’s three-year exploration of finer design aesthetics and engineering. The result is a model that accentuates a watch’s skeleton, highlighting all of the inner mechanics that make it so unique.
Inside, the watch’s new bespoke, function-first SXH7 movement, situated on the dial side, is on full display. Notably, the mechanism calls back to that of the Antarctique Rattrapante, which was released in 2021. “People were in love with the remarkable design of our SXH5 calibre, and we therefore asked ourselves how we could somehow make it visible on the dial” said CEO Xavier de Roquemaurel in a statement.
Titanium
Cleverly merging mechanics and aesthetics, the Antarctique Titanium watch runs on the SXH5 calibre, with a smooth anthracite dial designed to prioritize readability and a sleek minute track placed quietly around its edges. “The idea is simple, but requires great precision to execute,” said de Roquemaurel. “The hands crossing from segment to segment over the dusky backdrop of the dials looks almost like a shoreline seen from far above.”
Carte des Nuages
The Antarctique S Carte des Nuages, which translates to “Map of the Clouds,” exudes a luminous glow from vivid white or grey mother-of-pearl and a shimmering pair of “Antarctique-cut” diamonds at the 12th hour. Each of the remaining 11 hours features a “princess-cut” diamond, while six fine guilloché gridlines keep the composition in place. Notably, the ultra-thin discs of mother-of-pearl, which are sourced from the center of the oyster shell, are extremely fragile, so Czapek enlisted its specialized skillsets to apply the guilloché without damaging the design.
Sashiko
The Antarctique S Sashiko is an homage to the three-dimensional qualities of the quintessentially Japanese stitching technique of the same name. The design process, which was created in Japan during the Edo period, features a stamp-like pattern inspired by a fashioned lotus flower. On the watch, Czapek mimics the source material by replicating squares set at 45 degrees, each with six facets.
