United Colors of Benetton FW23 Champions the Brand's Industrial Heritage

With a kaleidoscope of saturated hues and a cyclical approach to prints.

During Milan Fashion Week, designer Andrea Incontri staged his second runway show for United Colors of Benetton. Debuting a heritage-inspired Fall/Winter 2023 collection, the visionary told a story defined by the “seriality of the product,” or a study of replicating trends across generations, with a kaleidoscopic range that appeared inside a fully mirrored set.

The range places an emphasis on tailoring, specifically across jackets, trousers and coats in both bright, tonal hues and statement check or tweed. At the same time, workwear claims a big stake in the line, particularly with overalls, garment-dyed canvas skirts and contrast-stitched jackets. Elsewhere, eco-shearling adds a textural dimension to plush accessories and apparel, while eco-leather appears in several iterations including the vinyl-effect biker jacket.

Loud colors and commanding prints find solace in clean-cut silhouettes, while neutral tones act as a palette cleanser for the collection’s prismatic approach. At large, the range employs seven vibrant shades: ultramarine blue, primrose yellow, emerald green, hot pink, rosewood red, wisteria and orange flame.

The collection is rooted in “chromatic metamorphosis,” according to the brand, as repeated symbols, shapes and patterns represent the cyclical processes of both nature and industrial production. In all, the line sums up the brand’s generational history, with Incontri’s concept of infinity.
