Yasuko Furuta‘s TOGA Archives is liberated for Fall/Winter 2023. Taking the opportunity to showcase its new collection as part of London Fashion Week, the label explores breaking free from constraints, bringing us out of our shells while simultaneously making us feel safe and comfortable in the clothes we wear to express ourselves.

Coats are cut wide and open to reveal the chest — and collection — worn underneath, but to also let us breathe. Tops appear with cut-outs and bows, manipulated button fastening suggesting we’ve buttoned it up incorrectly, or slits show skin, once again revealing what’s inside us, while for bottoms much of what’s on offer is equally revealing, comprising shorts, skirts, and tighter-fitting silhouettes.

On the topic of comfort, trims in faux fur, padding and puffing, draping and oversized natures all come together to cuddle the wearer in coziness. Subverting this, paper is used on dresses that are again twisted with supersized proportions working the shoulders that are drawcord-equipped and padded, and of course, even accessories like a daily tote bag are exaggerated to be as comfortable as possible.

TOGA Archives FW23 is a mixture of things — relaxed, easy, bold, wide, darling, subtle. But what it truly is, is a wardrobe. From scarves to collegiate V-neck sweater vests to pleated skirts or blue leather trousers, the collection is comprised of pieces that work and harmonize well together. Take a look at the collection above, and find more about TOGA Archives on its website.
