It’s official, Knights of the Zodiacs first live-action film, Saint Seiya: Beginning will premiere in Japan this spring.

Produced by Toei Animation, Sony Pictures, and Stage 6 Films, the film is an adaption of Masami Kurumada’s iconic Saint Seiya manga, which was first serialized in the prominent Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1986. The initial teaser trailer for the film was dropped near the end of 2022 and has since been removed. Now with the release of the latest teaser, the cast list and official premiere date are finally revealed.

In this thirty-second action-packed trailer, the film appears to follow the premise of the original source material. It begins with a close-up shot of Seiya, the namesake hero of the series traversing a barren landscape, where gigantic statues and Graecian-style pillars shatter in slow-mo. Quickly switching to flashes of explosions in a modern metropolis, the orphaned protagonist is depicted amidst an ambush. Iconic characters such as Eagle Marin also make a brief appearance halfway through the trailer. Coming toward the end of the teaser, Seiya appears to have acquired his Pegasus Cloth just in time for battle.

American-born Japanese actor, Mackenkyu is confirmed to play the role of Pegasus Seiya, who’s also been cast as Zoro for the upcoming initial teaser trailer live-action for Netflix. Other members of the cast include Madison Iseman, Sean Bean, Famke Janssen, Nick Stahl, Diego Tinoco, and Mark Dacascos.

The Saint Seiya: Beginning live-action film is set to hit the theaters in Japan, starting April 28. At the time of writing, a worldwide premiere date has yet to be announced.

In case you missed it, here’s a sneak peek at Netflix’s PLUTO anime adaptation.
