Emerging U.K. Designer Olly Shinder Drops Technical and Kinky SS23 Collection
From sheer mesh sports shorts that ride high on the thigh to revealing panels adorning tops and more.
Central Saint Martins graduate Olly Shinder is going from strength to strength. From showcasing his Spring/Summer 2023 collection at a showroom in Paris last season to hitting Hypebeast’s list of the best emerging U.K. designers to watch this year, the designer’s technical sensibilities have clearly made an impact on the buyers — and soon-to-be wearers — in the British fashion scene. Now, Shinder’s SS23 collection is available to buy.
Internships at CELINE and GmBH, as well as a stint at the Swedish label Snickers which is known for technical workwear, have evidently informed Shinder’s design approach. His pieces are tactile, techy, and sporty, but also revealing and subversive for the saturated field he’s currently infiltrating.
Take the humble T-shirt, for example. Served up in a petroleum navy hue, Shinder adds repurposed camouflage GORE-TEX appliqués to the front, before cutting sheer lace paneling into the seams and sides. Shorts ride high and are constructed with veins — a signature of the burgeoning designer — which, when coupled with the sheer body, allude to something kinky.
The same sheer mesh nylon is used to create a hero piece, Shinder’s sports jacket, which also features veins, while rounding out the SS23 drop we find a welded black jacket crafted from Cordura nylon and featuring Nusra Nijimbere-designed camouflage pockets, as well as a camo shirt.
