maharishi Treks the Northern Thailand Hills in Spring 2023 "MAHA SONGKRAN '23" Collection
Combining urban sensibilities with traditional Thai fabrics, artworks, and techniques.
As you ascend into the Himalayas from Vietnam, you’re likely to come across the Hill Tribes of Northern Thailand. This very journey is the story depicted in maharishi‘s Spring 2023 collection, “MAHA SONGKRAN ‘23.”
The British label is known for drawing influences from Eastern cultures and adding a militarian edge to the aesthetic. Think khaki tones across kimonos, Japanese embroidery on M-65 jackets, or in the case of Spring 2023, a heavy presence of tigers, Sak Yant tattoos, and a focus on Thai-inspired shapes, textures, fabrics, and styling.
Cargo pants are loose and adjustable, welcoming a silhouette fit for trekking the mountainous Northern Thailand regions. Paired with water-repellant Ventile Eco Hemp, Polartec conditioning, and lightweight and fast-drying NYCO — the CORDURA-made MIL-SPEC fabric that’s made in Japan — and maharishi’s Spring 2023 range is nothing short of fit for all conditions, tackling harsh terrains, harsher weather, and yet still suitable for its likely home of being worn and used in urban areas.
This cross-pollinated concept comes to fruition through the brand’s lookbook and styling. Utility kimonos in black are met with loose deck pants and tiger-themed embroidered Snopants, while footwear encompasses everything from maharishi’s Reebok Zig Kinetica 2.5 collaboration to Clark’s chukka mules, again exploring the versatility of Spring 2023.
maharishi’s “MAHA SONGKRAN ‘23” collection can be seen in the Rory Griffin-shot lookbook above, and a select range of Spring 2023 items can be found online and in-store now.
