Henrik Vibskov FW23 Proved That Slow and Steady Wins the Race

The showcase walked on the lines of performance art as models grasped sprouting tomatoes that hung from mechanical trees.

For Fall/Winter 2023, Henrik Vibskov delivered a showcase that was nothing short of performance art, perhaps stealing the crown for best show at Copenhagen Fashion Week this season.

Unconventional and otherworldly, the experience was thought-provoking from start to finish and welcomed guests into a graffiti-covered warehouse in the center of the Danish capital. Chilling melodies filled the vast wooden structure along with red spotlights with cautious energy.

As the showcase began, bygone farmers sporting pilgrim-like attire firmly made their way across the runway and gently opened mechanical tomato trees sprouting to life. Once grown, models began to make their way around the red-carpeted space unhurried, almost sedated into a relaxed state. Each took their time and played with the hanging fruits positioned in linear bunches.

Entitled “Long Fingers To Ma Toes,” Henrik Vibskov crafted a stunning tribute to the tomato and pulled inspiration from Spanish fruit fights while dissecting its tender structure and natural lifespan. As an homage to its harvesters, the collection began with a luminous suit dominated by distressed tomato illustrations layered atop bulging knitwear that swallowed the model’s face whole. Leather one-piece costumes displayed the fruit in its initial form, while workwear and chef uniforms reflected the workers that make it all possible. Nearly every look was paired with inflated gloves that showed the tomato at its birth and delivered a celestial personality.

Peeling leather apparel revealed checkered patterns beneath escorted by swollen carpenter pants, while tomato prints landed on knits, scarves, and umbrellas made for sun-filled field days. Furthermore, premature tomato plants were repeatedly seen on pleated garments and puffed outerwear, which mutually arrived in lime green, orange, beige, dark blue, and green tones found across tomato orchards.
