This week, fashion spanned the lot of exciting moments from a long-awaited debut to a big business deal and more.

Leading the charge was the debut of Phoebe Philo’s eponymous label. Aside from that, SKIMS made noise as it became the official underwear partner of the NBA.

Elsewhere, NIGO teams up with Pharrell’s JOOPITER for a forthcoming personal archive sale; Billie Eilish and Gucci revealed their first collaboration; The 2023 Fashion Awards announced the Designer of the Year and BFC Foundation nominees and South African designer Lukhanyo Mdingi won the 2023 AMIRI Prize.

Below, Hypebeast has rounded up the top fashion stories of the week so you can stay up to date on trends in the industry.

Phoebe Philo Debuts Eponymous Label

Nearly six years after exiting Celine, Phoebe Philo finally debuted her eponymous label. The coveted designer first announced her return in July of 2021 and since then fans have anxiously waited for what would come from Philo.

The first “edit” or collection from the label saw Philo continue her signature luxe minimalist aesthetic – crafting a complete wardrobe at that. The selection of pieces spans tailoring, tops, knitwear, skirts, sunglasses, shoes, bags and more. It’s no surprise that within 24 hours over 50% of the pieces were sold out. Since the label officially launched on October 30, that figure is much higher now – leaving very few items left.

Philo’s first edit ranges in price from $1,100 USD to $25,000 USD.

SKIMS Named the Official Underwear Partner of the NBA

It is clear that Kim Kardashian is planning on building an empire with her SKIMS label with several large accomplishments in just this year alone. One of the latest and largest was SKIMS becoming the official underwear partner of the NBA and WNBA.

Although specific details about the partnership are yet to come, the brand revealed that it will show up in “unexpected ways” at focal events like NBA All-Star and the NBA In-Season Tournament.

“I am incredibly proud of SKIMS partnership with the NBA, as it is a reflection of SKIMS growing influence on culture,” said Kardashian. “Together, SKIMS and the NBA will connect people of all backgrounds through fashion, sport, and talent, and I look forward to seeing the partnership thrive.”

NIGO Teams up With Pharrell’s JOOPITER for Personal Archive Sale, ‘From Me to You’

Pharrell’s JOOPITER has teamed up with NIGO for its sixth sale. By teaming up with the Japanese streetwear designer and friend of Pharrell’s, the From Me To You sale is set to be a highlight moment for the digital auction house.

The sale is set to include noteworthy and unseen items from NIGO’s personal archives – spanning fashion, hip-hop and streetwear. A few of the key items include an Hermès Orange H Clemence Leather Birkin 55 with Palladium Hardware (2010), a custom Brooklyn Machine Works NIGO bike (2005) with a Gucci link chain and a pair of BAPE STA first edition sneakers signed by JAY-Z (2002) and more. But that’s just a taste.

The NIGO: From Me To You sale begins on November 9 and runs to November 16 online at JOOPITER for global bidding. The lots are available for public preview in New York from November 10 to 12.

Billie Eilish Reveals First Gucci Collaboration

It is no secret that Billie Eilish has been a longtime fan of Gucci. So it’s only fitting that the star finally collaborates with the Italian luxury house.

For her debut Gucci collaboration, Eilish and the house’s new creative director Sabato De Sarno looked to Gucci’s Horsebit 1955 bag. The signature bag appears with asymmetrical outlines and is crafted from animal-free Demetra fabrics for the first time.

The 2023 Fashion Awards Announce Designer of the Year and BFC Foundation Nominees

The British Fashion Council has announced its ten candidates for Designer of the Year and BFC Foundation in preparation for the 2023 Fashion Awards.

This year’s nominees include Daniel Lee for Burberry, Jonathan Anderson for JW Anderson and LOEWE, Matthieu Blazy for Bottega Veneta, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons for Prada and Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.

Nominees for the BFC Foundation award are Aaron Esh, Chet Lo, Connor Ives, Paolo Carzana and Sinéad O’Dwyer. The 2023 Fashion Awards will be hosted at the Royal Albert Hall on December 4, 2023.

South African Designer Lukhanyo Mdingi Wins 2023 AMIRI Prize

The South African designer Lukhanyo Mdingi won the 2023 AMIRI Prize, awarding him a $100,000 grant and a year-long mentorship from Mike Amiri.

This year’s prize marked the first time it was open to designers across the globe. The other eight finalists were Abdel El Tayeb of France; Dorian Rahimzadeh of Iran; Ekwerike Chukwuma of Nigeria; Grace Ling, Keith Herron and Maxwell Osborne of the U.S., and Li Gong and Luke Zhou of China.

“This year’s talent was exceptional, and it was difficult to select a frontrunner, but Lukhanyo’s vision and approach stood out to all of us,” Mike Amiri said. “His recent collections have seen him fine-tune a singular aesthetic and sensibility, but just as commendable is the purpose behind what he does — for his wider community and culture — and this resonates with serious brand potential.”
