This week, fashion had a lot to say about both recognizing and cultivating new talent alongside the continuing revolving door of creative director leadership.

Leading the charge is the announcement of Melitta Baumeister as the winner of the 2023 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. Aside from it, Bottega Veneta made noise with the announcement of its fashion design academy.

Elsewhere, LVMH is opening a center for craftsmanship in Paris; Canada Goose and Pyer Moss teamed up for a new collaboration; Davide Renne is Moschino’s next creative director and Advisory Board Crystals’ Remington Guest and Heather Haber are rumored to be Supreme’s next creative directors.

Below, Hypebeast has rounded up the top fashion stories of the week so you can stay up to date on trends in the industry.

Melitta Baumeister Wins the 2023 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund

On Thursday evening, Melitta Baumeister won the nineteenth edition of The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and Vogue’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. The New-York-based, German designer who is known for her sculptural prowess, will receive $300,000 USD and mentorship from top-tier members of the fashion industry.

Rachel Scott of Diotima and Henry Zankov of ZANKOV were this year’s runner-ups and will receive $100,000 USD grants. The remaining finalists, who will receive business mentorships, included Angelo Fabricio Urrutia of 4SDESIGNS, Colin LoCascio, Kim Shui, Kozaburo Akasaka of KOZABURO, Sami Miro of SAMI MIRO VINTAGE, Fletcher Kasell and Tanner Richie of TANNER FLETCHER and Everard Best and Téla D’Amore of WHO DECIDES WAR.

Bottega Veneta’s Opens a Fashion Design Academy

Bottega Veneta is opening a fashion design academy, which is set to expand the space of fostering emerging design talent.

Entitled “Accademia Labor et Ingenium”, the academy promotes “craft and creativity” through independent workshops, courses and activities from world-class artisans. The training program will accept 50 students annually, guaranteeing jobs at Bottega Veneta after completion.

LVMH To Open a Center for Craftsmanship in Paris

In an effort to consolidate its catalog of brands while sourcing emerging talent, LVMH is opening a space for craftsmanship in Paris’ eighth arrondissement.

Spanning 21,500 square feet, the space will house LVMH’s vocational training program Institut des Métiers d’Excellence. Fully open to the public, the space will allow visitors to interact with the 280 skilled traders across the LVMH portfolio. Additionally, LVMH plans to hire 22,000 specialized craftspeople worldwide by the end of 2025.

Canada Goose and Pyer Moss Offer a New Vision of Luxury Outerwear

Since its 1957 founding, Canada Goose has been one of the foremost names in the sphere of luxury, yet weather-ready outerwear garments – collaborating with entities like Y/Project, Juun. J, Salehe Bembury and more. Now the brand has added to its catalog by enlisting Pyer Moss for a new collaboration.

Offering a new vision of luxury outerwear, the collaboration bridged the unique styles of the two brands. Spanning outerwear, clothing pieces, accessories and footwear, the range includes several fabrications like recycled feather-light ripstop, wave-inspired color-blocked shells, kind high pile fleece, 100% Merino wool and more.

Davide Renne Enters Moschino as Creative Director

Following Jeremy Scott’s 10-year tenure at Moschino, the Tuscan-born designer Davide Renne has officially been announced as the Italian house’s next creative director.

Previously Renne headed womenswear at Gucci for over two decades and has worked under Alessandro Michele and Frida Giannini. Renne will enter the role in November 2023 and is set to reveal his first collection in February 2024.

Advisory Board Crystals Rumored to be Supreme’s New Creative Directors

Following Tremaine Emory’s exit earlier this summer, Supreme has been void of a creative director. Now it is rumored that Remington Guest and Heather Haber of Advisory Board Crystals may be the streetwear label’s next creative directors.

The designers’ Los Angeles-based label was founded in 2015 and has since developed a cut following. If the rumor turns out to be fact, the duo would be Supreme’s first creative director pair – with Haber also being the brand’s first woman leader.
