Louis Vuitton's Monogram Trunks Will House the Ballon d'Or Trophy

Louis Vuitton is no stranger to the sporting world. By this point, the Maison’s signature monogram trunks have housed trophies from pretty much every major sport, whether that’s in tennis with the French Open, in football with the World Cup, or basketball for the NBA Finals. Now, for the first time, the winners of the Ballon d’Or Trophy, which recognizes the best male and female individual performers in football, will carry off their hardware in a bespoke LV case.

The two trunks have come to life thanks to partnership between Louis Vuitton, France Football and Amaury Media, and as one might expect, there are a number of fine details to pour over. Like a shell opening up to reveal a precious pearl, the trunk is accessed via two front panels, which together form a gold V standing for “Victory” and “Vuitton.” A single drawer lined with soft microfiber allows storage of personal items, while an embroidered Ballon d’Or logo provides a flourish of branding.

Then we move on to the exterior, which is covered in LV’s signature lozine, an expensive material which has a similar hand feel to leather. The trim is treated to an all-over monogram print, and all the corners, locks and clamps are finished with the same brass that the French fashion house has used in their trunks for more than 160 years.

The Ballon d’Or ceremony takes places on October 30, 2023 in Paris, so the only question that remains is who will take home the trophies (our money is on Messi).

In other news from the Maison, Louis Vuitton have also partnered with sailing’s America’s Cup to be the official trophy case.
