On its Paris Fashion Week runway, Denmark-based label RAINS debuted its first-ever 3D-printed shoe, made in collaboration with Zellerfeld.

Dubbed the “Puffer Boot,” the silhouette looks like an artifact from the future. Its conceptual-yet-function design boats an organic shape with a purposeful, sculptural appearance mimicking that of a stone carving. An innovation purveyor, RAINS planted a newly-developed, printed puffer element on the instep, consisting of 90% air.

Notably, the puffer element marks a big step forward for Zellerfeld. Previously, foam pieces would have to be sewn into 3D-printed textiles in a very tedious process. Now, the leading 3D-printing company has changed the game, proving that it’s possible to produce the comfort-first feature without any physical labor. Even better, the model still retains all of 3D printing’s mono-material and eco-conscious benefits.

Though RAINS has yet to share a release date and launch information for the Puffer Boot, Zellerfeld promises that the silhouette will “inspire more printed shoe designs to go the oversized route in the future.” Take a look at the innovative design in the gallery above.
