Take an Official Look at Marni and Carhartt WIP's Funkadelic Fusion

Combining Francesco Risso’s flower power frills with the workwear brand’s sensibilities.

Francesco Risso‘s technicolored Marni world is joining forces with the pioneering workwear brand Carhartt WIP. First teased late last year, the collection is now presented in its entirety — taking center stage in a Lengua-shot lookbook starring the funk artist Bootsy Collins — formerly of Parliament-Funkadelic — alongside his wife Patti, his grandson Vincent and musician Babyxsosa in their Cincinnati home.

Funk is the drive here indeed, as Carhartt WIP’s uniform essentials are done over in bold floral prints, color-blocked reworkings, and new, luxurious textiles that collectively tap into Marni’s realm. Take the Active Jacket, for example, now arriving in green-on-white or yellow-on-black colorways complete with collaborative branding on the lower pocket. Likewise, the flower power print works a quintessential bucket hat in canvas, Chore Jackets, and single-knee pants that have been given a slight kick to the flared leg, oozing ’70s funk soul.

In true Marni nature, plenty of double-takes are offered too: a T-shirt is overlayed with a basketball tank top, something that harks back to Risso’s divisive basketball top shopping bag design. Whereas archetypes for Carhartt WIP, such as the use of canvas, have been interpreted into A-line skirts that sit high on the waist.

Slip-on sneakers also make their debut, perfectly capturing both Marni and Carhatt WIP’s identities — canvas up top, the clover print all over it, and a chunky white sole unit to offset the bold patterns. Perfect on its own or with a full collaborative floral look, or even some of the subtler pieces in the drop, this collaboration offers something for everyone — particularly if you enjoy subverting workwear traditions with playfulness.

Marni x Carhartt WIP drops on January 14 at Carhartt WIP flagships around the world, in Marni’s boutiques, on Marni’s website, and at select stockists. It will arrive in Japan on January 25.

Elsewhere, Hypebeast spoke with Kim Jones and Eli Russell Linnetz about their colorful Dior x ERL universe.
