Reid Baker and Ines Amorim’s emerging label Ernest W. Baker might still be in its infancy, but with accolades such as being shortlisted for the 2018 LVMH Prize and having a clientele that includes Pharrell, A$AP Rocky, Harry Styles, Burna Boy, and Emma Corrin, the brand is pipped to become a household name this year. And with the new Fall 2023 menswear collection now unveiled, it’s bound to happen.

Continuing to elevate not just its aesthetic, but also menswear as a whole, Ernest W. Baker serves up a collection titled “Grandma Chic.” This isn’t your typical OAP nanna, with doilies and frills. Instead, we’re entering the wardrobes of Joan Collins, Joan Rivers, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Joanna Lumley; icons of style that have mastered the ability to wear formal clothes and opulence to define their inimitable identities.

Simply put, Ernest W. Baker projects main character energy for Fall 2023. Leopard print — a staple of any high-society lady — is translated across a leather-piped suit worn with black leather gloves, a matching cross-body bag, and Cuban heels. It’s very Hedi Slimane, and that level of luxury is no bad thing.

For womenswear, a faux fur leopard coat is presented, although it would work just as well on men. Large Herringbone patterns adorn a boxy button-up, as well as a satchel bag evocative of the “Grandma Chic” ethos. Bouclé is plastered in pink and twists a streetwear-indebted bomber jacket, while quilted and studded leather has been used across a jacket and pant ensemble for more mature glamor.

Faux fur trims on leather jackets, skinny sunglasses, fox fur-esque bags and boots, and heritage checkered designs on double-breasted trench coats continue to ooze this Monaco mentality — and it’s all rather delicious.
