Champion Drops Mini-Documentary to Celebrate REBORN by HoMie Capsule
Together with BETA’s Future From Waste Lab, the three-way collab upcycles dead stock into new one-of-a-kind garments.
Champion once again joined forces with Australian social enterprise HoMie as well as BETA By STH BNK’s Future From Waste Lab to develop a limited edition capsule collection through HoMie’s circular sub-brand, REBORN. The three-way collaboration highlights the global sportswear brand’s dedication to driving meaningful change in the fashion retail industry by breathing new life into excess or faulty garments and upcycling them into 50 one-of-a-kind pieces which include gender-neutral hoodies and tees.
To celebrate the forward-thinking initiative, Champion released a mini-documentary to give a behind-the-scenes look into the unique partnership and explore the power of collaboration in driving sustainable innovation and social impact. The short film can be viewed by scanning the near-field communication (NFC) tags attached to each garment in the form of a button. The NFC tags also provide access to information about the brand, how the clothes were made, the people involved as well as new content in the future, giving ample reasons for owners to hold onto their apparel.
“We’re stoked to be working with Champion again to shine light on fashion circularity through REBORN,” says Marcus Crook, Co-Founder and Creative Director of HoMie/REBORN. “We wanted to find a way to use waste as a resource, so we cut up, sewed and repurposed [dead stock] to get it back into the store and back online. All the clothing is one-off and unique, which made it more appealing for customers.”
As a longstanding partner of HoMie, Champion has also been offering financial support and expertise to the social enterprise alongside job opportunities for those in the HoMie Pathway Alliance program, which aims to equip young people affected by homelessness or hardship with the skills, confidence and work experience needed to be more work ready and better prepared for the future. In 2022, Champion provided over 800 hours of paid employment to Pathway Alliance interns, with two of the 2021 graduates continuing to work as casual employees in Champion stores.
