CLOT Taps Into Ancient Folklore for FW22 "Altered Beast" Collection
Celebrating mythical creatures from around the world.
After debuting its Jordan Delta 2 collaboration, CLOT presents its Fall/Winter 2022 “Altered Beast” collection. Inspired by the mythical creatures found at the core of different ancient folklore in cultures around the world, CLOT celebrates those historical beasts with explosive mixing and matching across a range of silhouettes.
“I’m a history geek who loves Egyptian culture, one of the most striking images of that time is drawings of people that are four different types of things. To understand that culture means you have to let go of everything you think you know, and try to understand what it is that they’re trying to portray,” shares CLOT Founder and Creative Director, Edison Chen.
The upcoming series consists of a bright and expressive mix of tees, sweatshirts, shirts, jackets, and hats. Details include knot buttons, patterned logos, faux-fur lining, and asymmetric patterns across oversized forms. Other accessories including water bottles, cushions, blankets, and badges are also offered.
For the campaign, Chen invites artist Tetsuya Nagato to craft a set of campaign shots starring actor Yōsuke Kubozuka and model Kozue Akimoto, interpreting their mystical forms.
“When I ideate, I think about how the creative concept is supposed to be delivered instead of just the clothing, and the keywords ‘mix-and-match’, ‘mashups’, and ‘weird collages’ immediately came to mind. Nagato does a lot of weird mashups that I am a fan of. When I visited Nagato at his art show in Japan and saw his work, I immediately decided he was going to shoot the campaign. His style totally matches this,” writes Chen in a press release.
