Prada's FW22 "Body of Work" Runway Collection Is Now Available to Buy
From Raf Simons and Miuccia’s $12,200 USD leather trench coats to Re-Nylon gloves, Jeff Goldblum’s jacket and more.
Raf Simons and Miuccia Prada‘s Fall/Winter 2022 Prada collection, “Body of Work,” explored “theater and cinema as mirrors of reality.” It was a standout show at Milan Fashion Week, taking over the Deposito of the Fondazione Prada with a star-studded cast of models that included Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Asa Butterfield, Jeff Goldblum, Damson Idris, Kyle MacLachlan, Tom Mercier, Jaden Michael, Louis Partridge, Ashton Sanders and Filippo Scotti — and now, the FW22 collection is available to shop.
While we’ve all seen the models and Hollywood stars wear the collection on the runway, styled to perfection alongside brushed leather Chelsea boots and Saffiano leather shoulder bags, it’s always a great test to see the collection in its commercial form, unobscured by the dazzle of fashion week.
As expected, the collection looks just as good online as it did in the flesh, with outerwear taking first place as it understands the assignment of being fit for fall and winter while introducing new house cues set by Simons’ creative direction.
For example, the most expensive piece in the collection happens to also be one of the best: a $12,200 USD oversized double-breasted leather trench coat. Here, Prada plays with the architecture of one’s body, accentuating the breast and shoulders with structure while nipping in the waist with a belt, and adding wide-set double-breasted buttons to further elevate the proportions. Likewise, a $4,900 USD Re-Nylon bomber jacket explores Simons’ love for bomber jackets and the mundanity or normality of such a piece, and blows this out of proportion with plenty of padding and a cinched waist.
Another bomber jacket, this time the $11,000 USD oversized leather bomber jacket in “Ruby Red,” is reimagined as a long-line coat and sports the now-signature triangular branded pocket on the waist-clenching belt. Technical fabrics appear in abundance, constructing an $8,000 USD raincoat that’s decorated with teased mohair accents as well as the $4,700 USD printed silk jumpsuit in “Steel Gray,” which draws from industrial workwear and laboratory uniforms while sporting branding and artwork by Peter de Potter on the collar and rear, respectively.
These futuristic designs are offset with a sense of tradition, something Prada has shown how to execute perfectly since Simons’ appointment in April 2020. Shetland wool turtle necks are classic layering staples for fall and winter, while Worsted-wool mock necks are given geometric jacquard necklines for a touch of “outer-space,” per the brand.
As of writing, Prada has released 64 pieces from the “Body of Work” runway show. More is expected to come, but take a look at some of Hypebeast’s selections and shop the range online and in Prada’s boutiques around the world now.
