On beautiful summer days, the best way to take in sun-lit skies is by hanging out with friends on a rooftop. The Elsewhere Rooftop in Brooklyn is a go-to spot for energetic gatherings, providing new perspectives of New York City’s skyline with ample space for dancing. As part of Ray-Ban’s takeover at Elsewhere all summer, the musical programming on July 3 brought in an upbeat crowd with sounds provided by DJs Dylan Ali, Life on Planets and Lion Babe. Blending in with the attendees, team members from HYPEBEAST enjoyed the festivities while capturing their best POV moments with Ray-Ban Stories, the first smart glasses from Ray-Ban and Meta.
The HYPEBEAST team arrived in style to Elsewhere Rooftop in the afternoon wearing pairs of Ray-Ban Stories in a Blue Polarized Wayfarer design. The smart glasses provided protection from the sun’s glare, allowing our staff to fully enjoy the epic, panoramic views of New York. Luckily, with Ray-Ban Stories’ automatic light adjustment technology, the team was able to capture the panoramic view around them without worrying about overexposed images or videos. The glasses also provided convenience and speed for our users, never having to fumble through pockets or bags to pull out a smartphone or camera.
As the party continued, Dylan Ali got the crowd moving by playing a range of throwback hip-hop and R&B tracks. Our team matched the music’s energy with an array of dance moves while wearing the Ray-Ban Stories’ lightweight, slim frames that house built-in dual cameras and three microphones. Even with the additional movement, the glasses never fell off from anyone’s face while recording clips of 60 seconds of video footage on the dancefloor. Whenever our staff wanted to identify songs Dylan Ali played, they could instantly play the footage on the accompanying Facebook View app to revisit the views and music.
The next artist on the setlist was the Life on Planets, who played funkier tunes for the audience. During the most popular songs, Life on Planets hopped on the mic to treat attendees to a special set with live vocals. While other attendees whipped out their phones to record the rare moment, our team captured this experience by simply tapping the hyper-responsive touchpad and capture button on the side of Ray-Ban Stories. As the music surrounded the Elsewhere Rooftop, it was still clear when the smart glasses captured our content because it provides a subtle clicker sound.
To close out the night, Lionbabe played a mellow set that was perfectly coordinated with the setting sun. Even with darker skies, Ray-Ban Stories’ lens allowed Elsewhere’s supplemental neon lights to still shine through for a more cosmic-like experience. Lionbabe dropped her new track “Yaya” for the crowd which made things livelier. Still, The Ray-Ban Stories glasses functioned with ease, capturing the crowd and stage even with natural light beginning to fade.
