The Inaugural of the Middle East's Michelin Star Restaurants

This week, Dubai got its debut on the Michelin Guide with 11 restaurants being awarded illustrious accolades. Along with the diversity in the city, comes a variety of cuisines which now marks the Middle East‘s first time on the globally renowned culinary map — highlighting two 2 Michelin Star restaurants, nine 1 Michelin Star restaurants, and 14 Bib Gourmand restaurants.

Check out the recognized restaurants below as well as three additional awards.

2 Michelin Stars

The highlights of the awards came with two 2 Michelin Star restaurants Il Ristorante – Niko Romito at Bulgari Resort Dubai serving Italy’s rich heritage and flavors as well as STAY by Yannick Alléno boasting a classic and innovative French dining experience.

1 Michelin Star

With diverse cuisines top of the list this year, a total of nine restaurants received 1 Michelin Star. 11 Woodfire which uses a variety of techniques, wood types and globally sourced ingredients for its dishes, the French and Italian blended Al Muntaha as well as Armani Ristorante bringing the finest Italian culinary experience to Burj Khalifa. The global chain Hakkasan is renowned for introducing contemporary Cantonese dishes inspired by early recipes, whilst Bulgari Hotel’s Höseki provides just nine seats for a true Omakase experience. Ossiano‘s seafood experience at the aquarium of Atlantis Hotel also received the 1 star in addition to Portuguese open kitchen Tasca by José Avillez, and Chef Massimo Bottura’s first restaurant outside of Italy Torno Subito. Last but not least, Trèsind Studio is one of the city’s favorites for its captivating Indian dining experience.

14 Bib Gourmand

Alongside the Michelin Star restaurants, the Michelin Guide Dubai highlights 14 Bib Gourmand restaurants. These include Al Khayma‘s contemporary-hertiage Emirati dishes, Bait Maryam founded by a mother serving home-style Arabic cuisines, French brasserie Brasserie Boulud and Fi’Lia serving Italian cuisine from the 70th floor of SLS Dubai. Sushi and yakitori joint Goldfish, Lebanese seafood at Ibn Albahr, Indya by Vineet‘s modern take on Indian street food and the first and oldest Persian restaurant Shabestan have also made it to this year’s list. Notable mentions include Folly‘s ingredient-focused menu, Japanese classics at Kinoya, Ninive‘s Arabic staples, Orfali Bros, REIF Japanese Kushiyaki, and Teible‘s seasonal menu using locally sourced ingredients.

Michelin Green Star

One restaurant also received the Michelin Green Star for sustainable gastronomy. Homegrown concept Lowe focuses on zero food waste and as part of its initiative, the restaurant offers “Waste NOT” dinners which include eight to ten courses of products saved over the previous months.

Special Awards

The recipient of the Young Chef Award is Solemann Haddad, founder and head chef at his Omakase restaurant, Moonrise. Danijela Tesic was also awarded the Sommelier Award for her knowledge and passion for wine at Ossiano and the team at Bait Maryam received the Welcome and Service Award for their family-like hospitality and warmth.
