Leading eyewear company Warby Parker was founded on the principles of innovation and creativity, and with the announcement of Toro y Moi as its new brand collaborator, it appears that the brand is standing firm on its creed.
As a daring and well-respected artist, Chaz Bundick – professionally known as Toro y Moi – is bringing a fresh perspective to WP with a new pair of frames called the “Mahal.” In designing two exclusive sunglass styles for the brand, Bundick chose an expressive and eclectic approach, debuting a brightly-hued orange colorway that’s named after his new album “Mahal,” along with a “Papaya” option that has red gradient lenses.
The term “Mahal” translates to both “love” and “expensive,” and is a Tagalog word that pays homage to Bundick’s Filipino American heritage.
Speaking to HYPEBEAST about his involvement with the brand, Bundick says:
“Warby Parker reached out to us and told us to let them know if there was any time to collaborate. Sometime after the record was finished we let them know our timeline and we started from there. We had several meetings for creative and marketing that really shaped a lot of the project and then there were a few improvisational fun things thrown in.”
“I’d work with Warby Parker again if I could! Working with a team that hears your needs makes the project flow very easily,” he adds.
Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Warby Parker, Neil Blumenthal, also weighed in on the new collaboration, stating: “Toro y Moi is a playlist favorite in our retail locations. We had a lot of fun experimenting with shapes and colors before landing on the Mahal sunglasses, which perfectly embody the optimism of Toro’s sound. Supporting artists across mediums is important to us at Warby Parker, and we pride ourselves on building authentic connections with all of our creative collaborators.”
“Ultimately, we believe that everyone deserves access to vision care and frames that make them look and feel good,” Blumenthal added.
The new Toro y Moi x Warby Parker collection is now available with a starting retail price of $95 USD, via the brand’s website, iOS app and select New York and California stores.
