Martine Rose Delivers New Campaign Imagery For its SS22 Collection
Taking inspiration from retro rave flyers.
Following the unveiling of a surreal Spring/Summer 2022 lookbook earlier this year styled by an eclectic mix of seniors, London-based designer Martine Rose offers another look at her SS22 menswear collection through new campaign imagery. The new series explores both fake and real collisions of subcultures, taking inspiration from rave flyers for “Carefree Dancing” and “Alive With Pleasure” artworks. On display are the Tuck Neck Sponsor Jackets that riff on Infiniti and Pirelli logos, recalling styles worn by the gabber ravers of the ’90s, and satin shirts featuring telephone prints inspired by Syd Brak’s popular 1982 airbrush poster for Athena, “Long Distance Kiss.”
Fake Surf color-blocked leggings appear in ocean blue and pale lime and Trompe l’oeil effects are developed on various leather pieces to resemble classic denim washes. Tucked-in necklines and other intricate customizations across denim jackets and crew neck shirts aim to reflect the everyday occurrences of a fast-paced electric lifestyle, like being pulled into a nightclub or dressing in a rush. The notched, sliced, and braided pieces introduce new DIY techniques undercutting classic menswear archetypes.
The Martine Rose SS22 collection is now available at the label’s website and select dealers.
