Kurono Tokyo Anniversary Edition Grand Mori Urushi Watch Sells Out in 12 Minutes
The dial features a 10,000-year-old lacquer technique.

Hajime Asaoka‘s Kurono Tokyo has just released its 2022 Anniversary Grand Mori “森” watch and it has sold out in 12 minutes. The watch features a dial made with a traditional Kyoto-style Japanese lacquer technique that has been used for over 10,000 years — only about 200 grams of sap can be extracted from each lacquer tree. The translucent green urushi, when combined with the gold-gilded base dial, gives off warm and rich tones that further enhance the depth of the dial.
The watch relishes in a concept and philosophy Hajime Asaoka pays close attention to — “nature is the teacher.” It is inspired by the canopies of the forest where small glimmers of gold are present to represent sunlight poking through layers of foliage. The watch features a “Premium” 90S5 Miyota movement, caseback engravings, a 316L high-polished 37mm stainless steel case, and of course, a hand-applied urushi lacquer dial.
The watch was priced at ¥358,000 JPY (approximately $2,770 USD) and was sold out in the 12-minute pre-order window.
