When it comes to some of hip-hop’s greatest hits, Canadian producer Noah “40” Shebib knows a thing or two about creating the right sound. In his new mini-documentary, Shebib returns to his Toronto roots and reflects on how the city has become an important backdrop to his work in the music industry. Shebib has been instrumental in some of the world’s most popular songs and has worked alongside major industry tastemakers including Drake, Lil Wayne, JAY-Z, Alicia Keys and more.

The two-time Grammy award-winning producer has released a short film in partnership with Native Instruments to give fans a glimpse of the work and process behind-the-scenes of his biggest and most successful projects. The mini-documentary shows never-before-seen scenes and archived footage that chronicles his early relationship and collaborations with Drake, specifically the making of the 2007 album Comeback Season.

Shebib also shares his journey and ongoing battle with Multiple Sclerosis and how it has impacted his music making overtime. In the documentary, he can be heard saying,

“I’ve always considered myself a visitor in hip hop. When I was 21, I got diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. I learned a lesson in the hospital, which was that as long as I had like one finger that still worked, no matter what the world took from me.

I could play the keyboard and I could make music. All the things in my life just kind of pointed me in one direction. I’m here to play my part and to leave my impact.”

An inspiration figure in the industry, 40 shares his hardships and success stories with fans in his mini-documentary, Toronto Rising. Take a look above.

Elsewhere in entertainment, Love, Death + Robots Volume 3 trailer has introduced Warrior Rats and Astronaut Cats.
