ASICS' GEL-SONOMA 15-50 Will Reconnect You With Nature
Spotlighted in a campaign starring the birdwatching collective Flock Together.
ASICS’ roster of running shoes continues to grow as it has just unveiled the retro-inspired GEL-SONOMA 15-50, starring in a campaign that features Flock Together, the global birdwatching collective for people of color.
Coming in “Lake Drive/Tarmac” and a triple black rendition, as well as two women’s colorways of “Smoke Grey/Oyster Grey” and “Smoke Grey/Cream,” the GEL-SONOMA 15-50 serves as ASICS’ way to get us all back outdoors. It aims to do so by making the shoe a hybrid, utilizing the trail-tested performance tooling of the GEL-SONOMA 15-50 trail shoe and the upper of the 15-50 cross-country spike.
The result is something tuned for the city, yet still capable of tackling almost anything you throw at it — from bird watching to hiking, ultimately allowing you to reconnect with nature. Making it durable is the abrasion-resistant AHARPLUS™ heel plug and the high-traction multi-surface outsole and shock-absorbing GEL™ technology of the GEL-SONOMA, while a breathable mesh upper makes wearing the sneaker much more pleasant in warm conditions.
ASICS also channels a ’90s trail aesthetic with the sneaker, combining multiple panels and textures to create a busy yet welcomed aesthetic. Suede on the toe box, vamp, rear quarter and heel provide a premium street-ready look and feel, while the mesh underbody brings the pair back to its inspirational purpose, with signature branding working the heel and tongue as per usual alongside tactile rope laces for a final flourish of hiking referencing.
The “Lake Drive/Tarmac” colorway is already available, while the black colorway will drop on May 13. Both can be bought from ASICS’ website for £105 GBP (approx. $128 USD).
In other news, the adidas x Gucci Gazelle is set to cost roughly $680 USD.
