The original handpainted illustration of the Patek Philippe Nautilus has sold at auction for $727,000 USD.

The original work from legendary watch designer Gerald Genta has sold at Sotheby’s Hong Kong in the second part of its “Gerald Genta: Icon of Time” sale, which will see the sale of 100 original artworks including familiar designs and never-before-seen private commissions,  from the late Genta’s personal archive, each paired with an archival NFT.

Ten bidders from around the world fought over the artwork, eventually going to a private Asian collector.

Also sold at the auction was a never-before-seen alternate Nautilus design, with a strap rather than bracelet, which realised $121,000 USD.

Another highlight of the sale was a Mickey Mouse watch made especially for the handover of Hong Kong, with the titular rodent holding the flags of the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and China, which sold for $39,000 USD.

Back in February, Genta’s original painted design of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak sold in the first part of the sale in Geneva for $610,586 USD.

Sotheby’s will sell Genta’s own Royal Oak at auction in May before the series concludes in New York in June with the sale of a number of Genta’s Disney-themed watches.
